SRR Awards 2011 Family Scholarships

Savannah River Remediation (SRR), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), has awarded SRR Family Scholarships to 10 local graduates.
The high school graduates, who are children of SRR employees, each received scholarships of $3,000. They were selected on the basis of general ability, leadership, scholastic assessments and achievement.
During a recent reception, Dave Olson, SRR President and Project Manager, congratulated the students as well as recognizing their parents.
"The Family Scholarship program is a great opportunity not only to congratulate students for their outstanding achievements, but also to recognize their parents who have been so diligent in instilling the work ethic needed to succeed," Olson said.
Winning SRR 2011 Scholarships are:
- Matthew Barclay, son of Douglas S. Barclay, SRR Procurement Specialist
- Matthew graduated from South Aiken High School. In the fall, he will attend Clemson University and major in genetics. In high school, Matthew was a member of the science and ecology club, as well as a member of the National Honor Society.
- Marina Clements, daughter of Frank A. Simonetti, SRR Senior Safety and Health Specialist
- Marina graduated from North Augusta High School. In the fall, she will attend Clemson University and major in engineering. In high school, Marina was a member of Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and also attended Palmetto Girl's State.
- Maximilian Nguyen, son of Jennifer Nguyen, SRR Senior Engineer
- Maximilian graduated from John S. Davidson Fine Arts School.
- Andrew Sherburne, son of David and Carol Sherburne, SRR Manager Facility Cognizant Engineer and SRR Senior Engineer, respectively
- Andrew graduated from Aiken High School. In the fall, he will attend William and Mary College and major in economics. In high school, Andrew ran on the cross country team and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club.
- Sara Snyder, daughter of Denise E. Snyder, SRR Principal Engineer
- Sara graduated from South Aiken High School. In the fall, she will attend Clemson University and has been accepted into the College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities. In high school, Sara was a member of the French National Honor Society. She also volunteered at Christ Central and was recognized as a USCA Scholar.
- Jeffery Strickland and Jonathan Strickland, sons of Brenda D. Brown, SRR Senior Multi-Skilled Technician
- Jeffery graduated from Patrick Henry Academy. In the fall, he will attend Presbyterian College and major in history. In high school, Jeffery was a member of the Beta Club. He also attended Palmetto Boy's State.
- Jonathan is also graduating from Patrick Henry Academy. He, too, will attend Presbyterian College and major in history. In high school, Jonathan was a member of student council and Beta Club.
- David Terry, son of Steven C. Terry, SRR Radiological Control
- David graduated from Francis Hugh Wardlaw Academy. In the fall he will attend the University of South Carolina and major in pre-pharmacy. In high school, David was a member of student government and also a member of the National Beta Club.
- David Tisler, son of Andrew J. Tisler, SRR Facility Cognizant Engineer
- David graduated from Augusta Preparatory Day School. In the fall he will attend the Naval Academy and major in engineering. In high school, David was a member of the National Honor Society, as well as the International Thespian Society. He was also his school's mascot, the cavalier.
- Sterling Tran, son of Raymond S. Tran, SRR Principal Engineer
- Sterling graduated from Lakeside High School. In the fall, he will attend the University of Georgia and major in either biology or biochemistry. In high school, Sterling was an AP scholar of distinction. He also worked as a soccer referee and volunteered at the Medical College of Georgia.
SRR is the liquid waste contractor at the SRS, which is owned by DOE. SRR is comprised of a team of companies led by URS Corp. with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill and Babcock & Wilcox, and critical subcontractors AREVA, Energy Solutions and URS Safety Management Solutions.
