Magician and safety motivational speaker John Drebinger works with a volunteer in the audience as he speaks to Savannah River Remediation employees about the value of safety in the workplace.
Aiken, S.C. -- John Drebinger, a nationally recognized safety motivational speaker and magician, used magic and creativity to reinforce the value and personal responsibility of safety in the workplace to approximately 300 Savannah River Remediation (SRR) employees at the Savannah River Site (SRS).
Drebinger's visit, held last week, was sponsored by the SRR Safety and Health organization.
Patricia Allen, SRR Director of Environmental, Safety, Health and Quality and Contractor Assurance, said Drebinger's use of proven techniques, fun and magic helped to raise the expectations and energy of the workforce to ensure a safe and productive workplace.
"Key to his insightful approach to safety is the premise that safety must be a personal value and that values don't change when conditions change, even in tough times," Allen said.
Drebinger works with companies that want to strengthen workplace safety and zero injury goals, something echoed by SRR President and Project Manager Dave Olson.
"SRR's goal in safety is Zero Injuries, Zero Events, One Day at a Time," Olson said. "SRR has built the reputation that we are a can-do company that understands safety comes first. Toward that end, we require an environment that creates safe job performance. Mr. Drebinger's presentation brought our goal to life."
For more than 20 years, Drebinger has earned a reputation as the authority on motivating employees to take personal responsibility for their own safety on and off the job-site. He stressed that injuries not only affect the person who is injured, it affects family and others.
Drebinger is the author of "Would You Watch Out for My Safety?" and has tailored presentations for company leaders, the workforce and for personal safety.
Savannah River Remediation (SRR) is the Savannah River Site's (SRS) Liquid Waste contractor. SRS is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. SRR is managed by a team of companies led by URS Corp. with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill and Babcock & Wilcox. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA, Energy Solutions and URS Safety Management Solutions.
