SRR Receives URS Safe Site Award

AIKEN, S.C. – Savannah River Remediation (SRR), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, recently received the 2010 URS Energy & Construction Safe Site award for its overall approach to worker safety, integrated safety management approach and its third-party recognition of its safety culture. SRR ended 2010 as the safest contractor within the U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental Management complex.
David Pethick, Group General Manager for the URS Global Management & Operations Services headquartered in Aiken, SC, said: "Every organization in industry or government should be judged and evaluated on its safety performance for the general good of its employees and communities it serves. And the recognition that the Savannah River Remediation team received as the safest site within URS is significant and well deserved."
During 2010, SRR received many awards honoring excellence in regards to safety such as URS President's Award; National Safety Council Million Hour Award; DOE-VPP Star of Excellence Achievement Award; South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Commendation Award; and South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Certificate of Safety Achievement.

The Savannah River Remediation award follows the announcement that URS was selected as the "Nation's Safest Construction Company" for 2010 by the Associated General Contractors of America. The Associated General Contractors oversees the Construction Safety Excellence Awards, a nationwide, annual ranking of safety programs. In addition to winning the Grand Award for the safety program determined to be "best of the best" for all contractor divisions, URS was awarded the first place award in the heavy construction group. URS also applied for the award through its Energy & Construction (EC) business. The awards program recognizes companies for implementing excellent safety and loss prevention programs that integrate management commitment, employee involvement and program innovation.
