Savannah River Remediation Begins School Year With Outstanding Report Card

August 11, 2011

AIKEN, S.C. – As school bells begin ringing across the CSRA, Savannah River Remediation (SRR) has an outstanding report card on its education outreach efforts during the past year, according to Dave Olson, SRR President and Project Manager.

"Our work in education in the two-state area is impressive, needed and far-reaching," Olson said. "SRR is at the head of the class. We are pleased to assist students, teachers, and administrators in their endeavors."

SRR has accomplished much on its most recent report card by offering internship opportunities, scholarships, funding and personal time to students in the surrounding communities.

SRR's most recent accomplishment has been the Summer College Internship Program, which gives college students a taste of what it's like to work in the "real world." Olson expressed great enthusiasm about the program because it provided the students with knowledge and experience they would not have otherwise.

"Hiring college, summer interns provides them a glimpse into the working world of SRR," Olson said. "Students are able to see, first-hand, what they will be doing if they choose to pursue a career with our company."

SRR hosted 47 college students in its summer internship program. Interns worked in a wide range of disciplines, including Computer Science, Design Authority, Engineering, Finance, Health Protection, Public Affairs, Human Resources, Legal and Project Controls.

SRR is the SRS's Liquid Waste contractor, and SRS is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. SRR is composed of personnel from a team of companies led by URS with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill and Babcock & Wilcox. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA, Energy Solutions and URS Safety Management Solutions.
