AIKEN, S.C. – Savannah River Remediation (SRR), the Savannah River Site's (SRS) liquid waste contractor, recently received its fourth consecutive URS President's Award for safe work performance.

SRR has received its parent-company's top safety award every time it has accumulated 2.5 million hours worked without a lost work day. SRR became the SRS liquid waste operations in July 2009.

Making the presentation was Brad Giles, URS Vice President of Environment, Safety and Health, who congratulated SRR employees for again achieving the award.

"This award recognizes SRR employees for accomplishing 2.5 million consecutive hours of accident-free work," Giles said. "This is an outstanding accomplishment."

Accepting the award for SRR was Wyatt Clark, SRR Tank Farms and Effluent Treatment Project Manager, who also recognized employees.

"We have employees who have embraced our safety work culture, which is evident in them currently working over 7 million hours without a lost work day due to injury in operations and over 24 million hours worked by our construction group," Clark said.

Terrel Spears, Assistant Manager for Waste Disposition Project, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Savannah River Operations, also acknowledged the achievement.

"All work at SRS begins and ends with safety," said Spears. "SRR's employees are continuing an impressive record of work without a days-away injury. I am pleased to see them continue to keep the focus on what's most important in their daily job performance and be recognized for working safely."

SRS is owned by DOE. The SRS Liquid Waste contract is managed by SRR, a team of companies led by URS Corp. with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill and Babcock & Wilcox. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA, Energy Solutions and URS Safety Management Solutions.
