AIKEN, S.C. – Augusta Technical College GED graduates were praised by Dave Olson, Savannah River Remediation (SRR) President and Project Manager, for overcoming challenges and earning their GED.

Olson was the keynote speaker for the event held last week at the James Brown Arena. About 200 graduates of the Augusta Tech GED program participated. A GED, which stands for General Education Development, is the equivalent to a high school diploma.

Olson also told the graduates, cheered on by hundreds of family members and friends in attendance that they should be proud of themselves for the work they have accomplished by overcoming issues faced as non-traditional students.

"You had many opportunities during this process to quit," he said. "But you didn't. You preserved through a lot of personal issues, family issues, work issues, and many other issues we'll never know. I am very proud of what you have accomplished here today."

Olson also urged the graduates to continue to look ahead in their careers.

"You worked hard to get here today," he said. "Receiving your GED is the first step of many more I encourage you to take to continue to bring a better life for yourselves and your families."
