SC Chamber Recognizes SRR Human Resources Director
February 16, 2010

AIKEN, S.C. -- Machell Mims, Director of Human Resources for Savannah River Remediation (SRR), was recognized by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and State Council for the Society for Human Resource Management during the annual Human Resource (HR) Professional of the Year banquet.
She was among 16 other human resource professionals from across the state that were honored during the ceremonies on February 9 in Columbia, S.C. Other professionals recognized were from such companies as Eastman Chemical Co., Palmetto Health, Johnson & Johnson, Providence Hospitals and Advance America.
Mims, a 15-year veteran in the field of human resources management, is responsible for all human resources activities affecting SRR at the Savannah River Site (SRS) and was the driver for workforce development and employee transition prior to SRR’s take over July 1, 2009, as the Site’s liquid waste contractor.
With limited staff and resources during transition, Mims was instrumental in completing the required HR actions within the scheduled timeframe including generating employee communications, developing a process for incumbent employees to apply for positions with the new company, preparing guidance for managers to use in evaluating applications and selecting new hires.
She is certified by the Human Resources Institute as a Professional in Human Resources, and is a graduate of the South Carolina Executive Institute.
SRS is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. The SRS Liquid Waste contract is managed by SRR, a team of companies led by URS Corp. with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill and Babcock & Wilcox. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA, Energy Solutions and URS Safety Management Solutions.
