Qualifications
To qualify for an internship with SRR, all résumés undergo an initial screening for the following qualifications:
- Must be a U.S.citizen
- Must have a G.P.A. of 2.5 or above
- Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited four year college or university
- Must pass General Employee Training (GET)
- Must pass Drug and Alcohol Testing (DAT)
Résumés meeting the initial criteria are then reviewed by a selection panel consisting of representatives from the SRR president's office including the Engineering, Equal Employment Opportunity, and Human Resources departments. It is important for SRR to have a consistent process available to select and hire summer interns. Each Panel Selection Committee member utilizes the following process and criteria to select interns as a candidate's résumé is reviewed for a potential internship.
Selection Methodology
The following guidelines are used to select candidates to participant in the SRR internship program:
- Grade Point Average (G.P.A.)
Although a 2.5 is needed to be considered for an internship with SRR, the students with the highest GPAs are given first consideration. - Graduation Date
Consideration will be given to the candidates with a graduation date of 2012 –> 2013 –> 2014 –> 2015, this helps the company to look at 2012 graduates as an entry point into the job market, but not as a primary focus for current business needs. - Degree
Focus on providing work experience for current students pursuing bachelors and masters degrees in fields associated with SRR work scope. - Work Experience
Focus on job related work experience and transferable skills as it relates to SRR job scope and mission. - Demographics
Focus on broadly and equitably reaching out to colleges and universities of varying demographics so that the best and brightest students are sought for employment including internships ensuring equal opportunity for all without regard to race, gender, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. - Proximity of University/College
To select students from local colleges and universities is a long term investment. This is an excellent way of giving back to the community. Hiring interns from close proximity colleges and universities not only helps the students in the community get started; it enhances the local workforce as a whole. - Managers request for preferred candidates via requisition
Consider career interests that may lead to consideration of SRR for future full-time employment as a result of the internship. - Mission of SRR
Because of the mission of SRR, it is vital that the vast majority of interns are pursing technical degrees. SRR open positions will vary from year to year, but the majority will be allotted to the technical divisions of SRR.
