Savannah River Remediation LLC (SRR) joined Habitat for Humanity and other sponsors to hand over the keys to the new Habitat home owner in North Augusta.
Ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held Sunday. SRR was one of the home's sponsors, and SRR employees participated in the building of the home during the year.
Jim French, SRR President and Project Manager, said he is proud the company and its employees were able to help the community through Habitat for Humanity.
"Having a home is the American dream," French said. "Our employees always give to the community, and we're happy to be a part of bringing the dream to this deserving individual."
The home was turned over to Ava Ross and her family.
North Augusta Habitat for Humanity, True North Church, WFXG-TV and their Building Dreams partners, Savannah River Remediation, North Augusta Wal-Mart, P.F. Chang's, Enloe Residential and Saturn of Augusta are also sponsors of the event.
North Augusta Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor – "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
SRR is the Savannah River Site's (SRS) Liquid Waste contractor. SRS is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. SRR is composed of personnel from a team of companies led by URS with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill and Babcock & Wilcox. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA, Energy Solutions and URS Safety Management Solutions.
