SRR sponsors flu shots Senior citizens and low-income residents in Barnwell and Allendale counties are now receiving flu shots sponsored by Savannah River Remediation.

AIKEN, S.C. – To help senior citizens and low-income residents, Savannah River Remediation LLC (SRR) has donated money to help fund seasonal flu shots in Barnwell and Allendale counties.

SRR is providing the service through the Low Country Health Care System by putting $6,000 into flu shots for citizens. The donation will provide at least 240 flu vaccines free to residents who qualify. The vaccines will be administered at 333 Revolutionary Trail in Fairfax in Allendale County and at 86 Wren Street in Barnwell beginning this week.

Jim French, SRR President and Project Manager, said he wants to reach out to areas that have been hard-hit economically, such as Barnwell and Allendale counties, to provide some relief in the health care arena.

"Citizens who live in these areas are great people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. We want to make it possible to keep them as healthy as we can as they work their way back toward recovery," French said.

David Hayden, Executive Director of Low Country Health Care System, added that the donation is timely as budgets continue to be tight for organizations that administer health care.

"We sincerely appreciate Savannah River Remediation's donation," Hayden said. "Providing flu vaccines to those in need is a very meaningful way to help this area respond to a serious health risk, as well as the communities' economic set-backs."

SRR is the Savannah River Site's (SRS) Liquid Waste contractor, and SRS is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. SRR is composed of personnel from a team of companies led by URS with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill and Babcock & Wilcox. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA, Energy Solutions and URS Safety Management Solutions.
