AIKEN, S.C.– Savannah River Remediation LLC (SRR) this week donated $5,000 to fund scholarships for selected technical training programs in Allendale County, S.C.
Allendale County has a 22 percent unemployment rate, the highest in South Carolina, the state announced last month. Denmark Technical College is teaching courses to adults at Allendale High School that include general welding and multi-skilled technical jobs.
Jim French, SRR President and Project Manager, said his company wants to provide an avenue for Allendale County residents to learn skills that can lead to jobs.
“Learning the fundamentals of welding and other technical skills offered through this program can open the door to jobs at the Savannah River Site and in many other industries and businesses,” French said. “Since the area’s unemployment rate continues to be high, we want to do what we can at Savannah River Remediation to help people learn skills that can lead to good jobs.”
SRR is the Savannah River Site’s (SRS) Liquid Waste contractor. SRS is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. SRR is composed of a team of companies led by URS Corp. with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill and Babcock & Wilcox. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA, Energy Solutions and Washington Safety Management Solutions.
